Tips for the Best Portraits:

Clothing:

*Girls- stay away from the shirts that "balloon" out and then are banded
at the bottom, as well as balloon dresses and skirts. They make
everyone look heavy on film.

*Avoid neon type colors, such as bright orange, lime green, and yellow
as they will distract from your face, and cause harsh skin coloring.

*Pastels generally wash out in photographs-especially light pinks,
yellows, and greens.

*Avoid stripes and loud patterns, as they take the emphasis off you.
Stripes also cause difficulty for the camera with focusing.

*To look slimmer- go with long sleeves and tailored blouses. Dark and
medium colors slim and light colors add weight.

*Make sure your glasses have anti-glare coating- eyeglasses can cause
reflections and glare.

*For group shots, choose the same toned bottom (i.e. all dark jeans or all tan khakis).
For tops, use all the same color, or colors that are from the same family or complementary to each other.

*Don't wear a watch.

*If you are going to tan, make sure to do it more than a week before your shoot-
you don't want a sunburned portrait.

For Guys:
*If you are going to get a haircut, do it several days before the sitting.
*Clean and trim your nails for the shoot.
*Have a fresh shave
*PLEASE use skin makeup if you have ANY blemishes- this will
help the editing process and will look more natural than an
airbrushed portrait. Go to your mom or girlfriend for help with choosing
the right tone.

For Girls:
*Wear makeup the same or a smidge more than you normally would.
*If you don't normally wear makeup, at least put on light foundation, mascara, and lip gloss.
*Make sure to have powder with you to touch up facial shine
*Bring along a brush, lipstick, and powder for touch-ups, especially after clothing changes
*Clean and trim your nails for the shoot.
*Girls especially look great in gem tones- deep reds, blues, purples,
greens, etc.

For senior portraits:
These rules fly out the window-
*Avoid neon type colors, such as bright orange, lime green, and yellow
*Avoid stripes and loud patterns
-For seniors, feel free to be as edgy and wild or as toned-down as you want. I want to capture
YOU and all that entails. We can make it a "modeling" type session, or it can be very relaxed
and simple. The more info you give me before the session, the better your results will be.
